Giovanni Venturini endured a difficult task in Budapest, where took place the fourth round of 2018 International GT Open, but he showed one more time all his determination. The series’ reigning champion recovered to the fifth place in race 2, a result that repays him just partially from the bad luck he had during the weekend. Anyway, he is still in the hunt to confirm his 2017 title.

At the wheel of the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 fielded by Imperiale Racing, Venturini had a productive Friday together teammate Jeroen Mul. The Dutch driver was in action for the Saturday morning qualifying, but due to the rain, he has been stuck in the middle of the pack. In race 1, Mul was forced to retire after just two laps, as a consequence of the heavy crash with Damiano Fioravanti in turn 1. Therefore, Giovanni hadn’t even the chance to start his driving shift.

The Italian Lamborghini Factory Driver had so to wait the next day to back in the cockpit. In Q2, unfortunately, he has been firstly slowed down by a BMW in the traffic, then had to abort his second run for a wheel-tyre mounting error from Michelin on the second set available. Having started from the 12th spot on the grid, Venturini gave all his best to reach the fifth position. A better result was possible, but a safety-car during the opening phase compromised a bit the plans.

After the Hungarian round, Venturini keeps the fourth place in the standings with 48 points. Next stop for the GT Open is scheduled at Silverstone on 1-2 of September, at the end of the summer break.

Giovanni Venturini
“I can say I faced one of the most difficult weekends of my career, here in Budapest. Bad luck really hit us on Saturday, and I couldn’t even drive in race 1 after the incident, which involved my teammate Jeroen. Sunday’s Q2 has been compromised by a mounting error on our set of wheels and tyres set. It’s something that doesn’t happen frequently. I have been called to give it all in race 2. Considering all the odds, we can rate positively this fifth place, but after the summer break we’ll try to get more and fight for the title till the end”.
